no wonder i loved this movies so much before i started it.... I ALREADY KNEW HOW GOOD IT WAS! This movie not only has some of the best visuals and score of this century, but also great acting and come on... those heptapods you just wanna be friends with. the progress of their communication is as perfect as it can be. the way they first introduced themselves, the montage of the learning process of the language, the over analyzation and crazy science that goes into the pattern recognition, the scene where she realizes she has known their language all along, it all WORKS. the dynamic of having to cooperate with all the other nations to solve the problem is genius and allows for a lot of realistic approaches to this unrealistic thing, with different ways to show power, the influence one government has over others, and the abuse that can lead to. the other dynamic of 'if you saw your whole life from start to finish, would you make changes' is also genius because everyone's answer is yes. everyone has made a few mistakes throughout their life, which they would want to fix, but is yeah the RIGHT answer? because life as a whole is a learning-based experience, and no matter what, mistakes and bad decisions are why you are who you are. if you changed even one thing in your life, it wouldn't really be 'your' life anymore. what you really need to do is be satisfied with the life you have, even if it is not the life you wanted. that is the real freedom from what we are always bound by: ourselves.
