Watched the re-release in cinema. What an experience!!! The cgi stood out a bit more on the earlier evolutions of Godzilla, but the night scene was spectacular. The fear and panic are captured so well. The deeper meaning as a criticism of the state of affairs in Japan in 2010 is also well done. It doesn’t bang you over the head with it (don’t look up), but it adds another layer of meaning and value. The score is great. Getting to hear the old pieces in a theater was a great experience.

I can’t stand old Hollywood. The soft focus on any shot of grace Kelly was crazy. Looks like they put a whole tub of Vaseline on the lens whenever she was in shot. All shot on a set too; nothing on location. The script was a typical PI caper, nothing remarkable. Bad direction in the scene where all 3 actors are swirling brandy around. Totally unnatural feeling and reeks of a director’s request. High points were the dubbing / sound effects, and sense of suspense and noir lighting in the final scene.

Coen directed Macbeth, wow! 4:3 and black and white were interesting artistic choices but it played out. The film still felt thoroughly modern and the bird motif was excellent. Shout out (former) technicolor NY!

Very cute movie. Hepburn’s acting is great. Sound effects and dubbing are good. Like most old Hollywood films, the cinematography and score haven’t aged well. Writing is good, or perhaps royals still act the same so it doesn’t feel outdated.
