Nightcrawler
🏆 | My Favorite Films | 2025 - First Watches |I was randomly scrolling for movies to add to my watchlist which is basically what I do for a living now and I came across Nightcrawler. I decided to look it up on her and it had a 4.2/5 so ofc I had to endure.
For starters. Jake Gyllenhaal delivers in what might be my favorite performance from him. I personally love him as an actor but I forgot just how good he really is. He perfectly encapsulates a sociopath in modern times and he never changed, every scene involving him has is so psychotic, you want this guy to burn but he is also the protagonist and is so interesting. We slowly learn why and how he is like this and it makes Nightcrawler such a thrilling and suspenseful movie without seeming to have any real “stakes” until the ending. The narrative and script is also pretty much airtight providing for such a smooth watch, I never had the idea of “hey thats a little weird,” or found myself questioning some element of the story which is always great.
This is basically a 5 star I mean I don’t like to give 5 stars on 1st watch unless I have watched it in the past and I am just now rewatching since I got this account or it made a really big impact on me like Heat or Arrival. It is still going right into my favorites list though.
