The Nice Guys

I laughed my ass off. The last movie I recall that made me laugh this much on the first watch was The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. The acting was very good. Ryan Gosling was especially fabulous. The needle drops were perfect and always enhanced the vibe of the scene. The plot was fairly static, with much of the conflict feeling artificial. It had some strong elements, but many scenes amounted to little more than witty one-liners and ridiculous shootouts. I appreciate the attempts at social commentary, but they felt out of place and underdeveloped. The ending was especially underwhelming. Not only did it fail to tie the story together in a satisfying way, it also teased an unnecessary sequel.
