Different from the Others
“Your son suffers not from his condition, but rather from the false judgement of it.”
The fragments of this film cannot be judged as a whole due to attempts to eradicate it by the Nazis. However, it is that fact that makes what we have left all the more precious and valuable. The background is just as vital, if not more vital than the plot itself.
This film serves as a cry to the public, even now, to view the plights of the queer community more sympathetically. Appearances from Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld solidify the film’s message: it is only through love that we can be understood, and love cannot and should not be condemned.
