Okay, I'm gonna be honest, I hated this :| and so I'm going to yap, excluding anything outside of the movie itself (so about the production and stuff) First of all, I want to say that I loved the OST. I don't think I can describe this in detail over text but I loved the bit with the bow string at the final note of the motif. Really sweet. As much as I hate celebity casts, I also think Matt Damon did a good job as Odysseus (tho tbh I didnt know who he was so that may have helped). Then the rest. I thought the costuming was very silly. Agamemnon looked goofy af, and it all felt very uninspired :/. The writing itself was horrid. All layers Homer's Odyssey had were just erased and everything felt very 50/50, like Nolan couldn't pick a lane. Athena was a nothing-char (which is such a shame): gods were nothing, but they still existed (Odysseus' stance towards them was very off), and in general the whimsy was fucking gone. Apparently Ody had his anti-war belief after Troy, but then they still plunder an island and he unnecessarily shot the cyclops. Odysseus as a whole was NOT the smart man he was said to be, and he also didnt really seem to have any leading skills from what we saw. Kirke was way too easily persuaded in changing them back, the cyclops had become a cryptid instead of a mythological creature, the fucking meta-commentary about the bronze age and civilization... and then I haven't even started on the constant repetition of everything and the amount of tell instead of show. It felt unintentionally modern. The Greek religion felt way too Christian (that doesn't leave a good taste on my tongue considering the historical relation between the two ToT). The characters didn't seem to have the knowledge that they should've had living in that world. It felt pretentious. It felt like it couldn't commit. I don't care usually for the accuracy of an adaptation, so long as you do something interesting with it. Something new. This wasn't. It didn't dare to be unique. It was very basic and surface-level. I feel like any other myth could've been used and then maybe it would've been different. Oh well. At least I could see Elliot Page in his beautiful glory even if it was not for long. And I did think the way Kalypso had been done had at least an interesting idea. Just wish I didn't hate the rest. Oh and props to whoever wrote the sub. They used the more faithful Greek transliterations (Ithaka, Kirke, etc.). EDIT: I thought it was stupid as hell that he said "would you talk to ants" as if GODS don't talk to humans/him.
