What should've been a movie about kindness to others & oneself and remaining good despite all the shit life throws at you ended up lacking the heart I loved so much in Superman (2025). I went in knowing WoT wasn't going to be identical to its source material. C'mon, Lobo was advertised to be in it. I wasn't expecting, however, how much it was going to fail in adapting the sauce that made the story so special in the first place. I'm sorry, but why did it look like Guardians of the Galaxy?? Bilquis Evely and Mat Lopes didn't create the most gorgeous art ever just for the movie adaptation to end up indistinguishable from other science fantasy movies. WoT could've given us something different, a new aesthetic for this type of movie. Ruthye's character arc was SO clear: choose not to take revenge on Krem. Keyword here is choose. Instead, Kara hammers in the point again and again, so much so it didn't really feel earned when Ruthye inevitably didn't kill Krem. In the comic, Kara didn't force Ruthye to do it her way. She led by example, showing kindness to those they encounter. Because of her, Ruthye realized that there still is good in the world and that enough killing has been done. Ruthye made the decision of *her own volition*. By the end of the movie, I couldn't say for sure if Ruthye had fully internalized why revenge wasn't the answer. Certainly not the reasons comic!Supergirl wanted to impart on her. Supergirl... First, they changed it so Krypto actually needed the cure from Krem. Not a fan of that choice! Comic!Kara chose to go with Ruthye not for herself but to help a young girl from going down a dark path. Movie!Kara, while still a good person, just wasn't as kind as her comic counterpart. I was so looking forward to an intergalactic road trip with Ruthye learning from Kara. Which brings us to— Second, it didn't have to be an action movie. I enjoy cool fight scenes as much as the next person, but not at the cost of a good story. Like yeah, Supergirl is strong and cool! Can we get to the part where she's a good person? No? Okay. Third, Krypton. It wasn't as hardhitting as I wanted it to be. I REALLY disliked how it was pushed forward into the story. Kara is distant and closed off due to her losing her home and family. It felt jarring to me how she just . told all that to Ruthye when they barely knew each other. Kara's backstory was my favourite part of the comic & man, I was so, so disappointed with how it played out in the movie. UGH. I wanted to be moved!!! Me, the person who sheds a tear at anything remotely emotional DIDN'T FEEL SHIT except for ??? at Kara being actually, literally younger than Clark. Why not include the Phantom Zone?? Fourth, the entire message of revenge not being the answer is undermined by Supergirl killing Krem in the end. Yipee. She's Superman's edgy cousin who isn't averse to killing! What was the point then. What am I supposed to take away from the movie. There are more things I could complain about (the music, the cinematography, Krem, etc.), but all of that could be condensed to: what a fumble man.

entire series was underbaked. interesting concept but the storyline itself was pretty meh.

a tad too barebones for what could've been a compelling story. all that homoeroticism just for them to not be gay, what a waste. instead, we get pseudo-incest. gayest straight movie i've ever seen.

okay fine, they got me with this
