Dìdi (弟弟)
Saw this tonight followed by a q&a with the director Sean Wang and cried so freaking hard in the theater lmfao. Best release of 2024 and I don’t say that lightly.
Didi is so specific but there’s a universality to it if you’re an immigrant, first gen, have ever been an anxious teenager, etc. I have never seen a film depict shame so painfully and accurately there were times I cringed and felt anxious along with Chris. There were parts of this that felt SO relatable and true to my childhood like I too made a Facebook just because my crush had one lmfao. I saw this with my brother and he and I have the same age difference as Chris and Vivian so it felt super similar to our dynamics as well ugh everything about this was so beautiful and nothing felt forced or out of place. I loved hearing Sean Wang talk about it afterwards.
I will not rest until everyone I’ve ever met watches this in a theater!!!!!!!!!
