Stalingrad
This is one of the greatest anti-war movies of all time. It shows the main characters Manfred ‘Rollo’ Rohleder, Fritz Reiser, ‘GeeGee’ Muller and Hans von Witzland descend from overconfident brash soldiers believing they can take Stalingrad in 3 days into soldiers fighting for their lives and a cause they no longer believe in, which leads to the eventual desertion. There are many powerful scenes in this movie which really make you contemplate the horrors of World War 2 and the eastern front in particular, which saw horrifying numbers of casualties as the German Army pressed into the USSR. You begin to see how war manages to break down even the strongest willed men into shells of themselves. The music intertwined with the movie perfectly, helping to emphasise the point being created during specific parts of the movie. The makeup crew did an amazing job in showing how the brutal winters of Russia can affect the human body, with accurate representation of both Frostnip and Frostbite aswell as making highly memorable injuries. I could not recommend this movie enough and believe everyone should watch it at least once in their life.
