“If you ride like lightning, you’re gonna crash like thunder” Yeah this movie fucking bangs. I think I was too young to realize how well this movie was made the first time I watched it. Recently I thought back to it and decided to give it a rewatch, giving me an entirely new vision on this film. I could write an essay about how much I love this movie. I think this is one of Ryan Gosling’s best performances. The idea that he is only in this film for the first 45 minutes is insane, his character lingers throughout the rest of the film. I think that the idea of legacy and trying to break out of that is really unique. Jason having mercy on Avery, then there being a sunrise in the next scene is such a nice detail, considering the rest of the shots are sunsets if I remember correctly. Even the detail that Avery’s actions caused him to look at his son differently. The parallel between Avery and his dad in the pool vs. A.J. in the pool with Avery across is so fucking good. The constant parallels between Luke and Jason is also beautiful, seen through them riding, the glasses, and even having ice cream at the same shop. The soundtrack is also a major standout to me.

Seeing a little girl take off a mask to reveal Liam Neeson made me instantly lock in

I liked this WAY more than I thought I would’ve. It’s been on my list for a while and I knew I was gonna like it, but damn. The camera work in this movie was phenomenal in my opinion, and the music was amazing and haunting. Also im so glad I decided to watch this movie in black and white as opposed to the colored version that came out later. The black and white helps create the gloomy atmosphere that goes hand in hand with the story. It was surprisingly scary and I would even consider it timeless.

Not bad by any means just an average sci-fi action movie. The movie was surprisingly emotional which was nice. Hulk and Deadpool cameo!!
