High and Low
When the movie is perfect it got me from "why is this seems like another boring long black and white movie" to "bro im locked in."
Very well-written and executed by Akira Kurosawa. Every scene in this movie felt like it pulled me deeper into the movie. The plot, the tension, the dialogue, and the blocking were near-perfect. It felt like i was watching a blend of Bong Joon Ho's social issue drama and the suspense of Fincher's or Hitchcock's thriller.
The performances are excellent. The way they delivered each character was on point. Like the father who was burdened by guilt as his child was kidnapped, and the wealthy businessman who was facing a moral dilemma between staying "high" or helping the "low" that cost his fortune. The antagonist's performance by the end was great, and the police deserved credit for doing their job well.
This is literally a kind of movie i never thought i would love 🚬
