Much like another Seasonal horror film from this same director, I did not like this film very much. It was very dumb. And not in a good way.

For years now I’ve seen people claim that this is a Christmas film, saying that it’s more of a Christin than a Halloween film. And for years now I thought those people were fucking crazy. Like, the film opens with a song literally called “This Is Halloween” I don’t think it gets much clearer than that. But for all these years I’ve actually neglected to attempt to view this film from the perspective of those who see it as a Christmas film. So I decided to rewatch the film this Christmas with the Christmas movie idea in mind. And it did not help. Yeah, this is clearly a Halloween film. But I don’t really mind? Like, Halloween is easily my favorite holiday, and this film oozes fall and Halloween vibes. So I don’t really mind watching it twice a year 3 months apart because I just really like this films. I can definitely respect people who think it’s both a Halloween film and a Christmas film, as I kind of lean into that camp more; but I’ve seen people insist that this is strictly a Christmas film and I’m sorry: but those people are smoking some laced up dope. This leans far more into the Halloween aesthetic. “Buh-buh-buh-buh-but it has Christmas in the title!!!!!” Okay? AND?! Titles aren’t necessarily indicative to a films whole plot; is (1978) strictly about the holiday; nothing more? NO! So yeah, far more a Halloween film than a Christmas film, but any excuse to watch a Halloween film I’ll take, so maybe I’ll watch this every year at Christmas, just for some October-vibes-in-December at the end of every year.
