i mainly watched this for sam reid, but i ended up loving the film itself. it does a great job showing how messy and complicated the troubles were, especially the infighting between different groups, and how the english soldier ends up trapped between everyone, with danger coming from both the “good” and “bad” sides. sam reid was brilliant, and he definitely didn’t disappoint. the only reason it’s not five stars is because i wanted a bit more from a few parts of the story.

alien is a tense and atmospheric sci-fi horror film with great suspense and an iconic creature. it starts a little slowly, but the suspense builds really well, and the ending is worth it. it doesn’t get five stars from me because the pacing drags in a few places, but it’s still a classic that holds up.

i didn’t really find it as funny as everyone says it is, and the story got a bit messy for me. the only parts i was really interested in were mickey’s scenes. brad pitt was easily the best part of the film, and as someone who grew up around irish travellers, i thought his accent and mannerisms were beautifully accurate. i probably wouldn’t watch it again, but i’m glad i gave it a go.

i preferred the first one, but aliens is still a really fun watch. the action is great and the characters are enjoyable, but it leans more into action than horror, which wasn’t really my thing. still a solid sequel. the ‘queen’ had a really fun design.
