"I'm happy you know who you are"
That scene of Ruby and her mom broke me. Idk, I just love a mother-daughter scene. There's a wide ground of understanding in that scene. But then again, the whole movie is about understanding.
I love the scene where Frank and Jackie are in a conversation about Ruby going to college. How Jackie thinks she's her baby and it's cute and sweet really but then again, "she was never a baby". Because even since she was little, she was already interpreting for the whole family. She was their speaker, interpreter, and protector. She is a soldier since she was a child.
But in the end, she has her own life. She has her own future. And gladly, her family are finally brave enough to let her go. They went together to chase one future. It was lovely.
And I'm also glad that Mr. V supported her until the end. Like it's genuinely such a good experience to have a teacher like him. Hard to impress, a little bit mad, yes. But also sincere and loving. I'm just so down for a teacher-student genre.
In the end, just like how happy Ruby was with being accepted in Berklee, I was also happy because I realized I have a great mom, a great sibling, a great teacher, a passion, and I know who I am. So I hope I will get accepted to my dream school just like Ruby. And I hope the people I love and who loves me will be by my side throughout the journey.
