"I want to be great. I want to be one of the greats" -Andrew Neiman
God, this is beautiful. This is my kind of tempo. This film successfully grinds me to try harder and give so much care to the things I'm really passionate about.
Andrew, you are a great drummer. You deserve standing ovations, applause, any kind of appreciation, really. You have put your blood, sweat, and tears to what you love and somehow that makes me want to do the same. I've done that, but maybe not as hard as u did. Maybe I need to work harder. But the thing is, I do not want to do it to prove to other people that I'm great. I want to do it because I love it. And I do not want to give it up or give that love to anything else. Andrew, you deserve better than fletcher. But maybe without fletcher, you wouldn't be this great.
Fletcher, you're not a great teacher. You're doing things wrong. You k*lled people, emotionally. Stop trying to find the new Charlie Parker, start trying to find your empathy first. Those people who said "you'll be better if youre under pressure" then succeeded on giving u pressure and also distress needs to watch this film; not to act like fletcher even more, but to reflect and try being Andrew. I get that people need a push to the great league but not everybody wants to go to the great league, let alone gets pushed to it. Everybody got different dreams. Besides, I dont think fletcher can play the drums better than Andrew, but well who knows.
Also, I dont agree with andrew being cocky about his talent. I mean yeah sure he got a great talent, and I understand his situation but hey being cocky isn't very nice.
Btw, the dining table scene was really inspirational. Like yeah, Andrew, tell em. And the ending scene just heals me, I legit exhale when the credits roll. Andrew's father watching his son showing off his skill, we can all see it in his eyes that he's so proud and said "that's my son" deep down but also realizes that his son has become someone obsessive with drumming and fletcher turned his son to be that way, oh what a feeling. I just wish there would've been a line to close the film by Andrew himself or fletcher telling Andrew he's good or something. Or just andrew saying something cool. Honestly tho, I wish whiplash is longer.
Overall, Whiplash is about being passionate, pursuing what you love, trying hard, and not losing yourself in the process. Sometimes we just have to take a break from what we love to remember how much we love to do it. And I think it matters to have a passion, a dream, but also emotions. Because we'll never know when they will turn to determination.
