Watched first on January 19th 2026 Sets up my hopes well for 2026 I hope Ralph Fiennes wins this Oscar lmao (I know it won’t happen let a man dream)
I know that Letterboxd says 2025 but I’m still putting on this list and no one can stop me.
Having project Hail Mary this low might seem like ragebait. In fact, it ragebaits myself. I saw this movie 3 times, and each watch it got progressively worse. This movie is a great first watch, in imax, when you know nothing about it. The moment you have any context from the book or from a previous watch, it becomes a bad blockbuster attempt that makes up for its bad character development with beautiful visuals. I would love to say this movie is one of the best that came out this year. I would love to say this movie is good on rewatch. But all that it is is a movie that relies on people being blinded by a cute character and beautiful effects. That all said it’s not a bad movie. This movie genuinely is good. It brings more to the table than a lot of movies I’ve seen this year have so far. It is able to invoke emotional reaction from me. This movie allows me to appreciate my humanity and the idea that we can all work towards a common goal. I just don’t feel that through Dr. Grace or Rocky but the entire idea of the movie instead.
