Supermanhan10.0· July 16, 2025Followwalked out of that theater with the memory of a bald-headed man sitting on the row in front, carrying the anticipation i’ve had on my chest for months like a proud badge in the shape of an ‘S’ and the weight of hope it brings with it. it wasn’t the blast of action or, although admittedly pulled a few gasps from me, his offhanded coolness in response to the wreck in front of him to save the ones even other superheroes would’ve not minded adding to the list of a megacity wide collateral damages, that made me love him. he only has a few scenes as clark kent, the bed-headed, always late, and points one finger up when correcting somebody type of guy, yet it peeks through his heroic exterior. he had his parent’s whole and restored tape recording, one he grew up listening to and believing in, ready to accurately be translated by four but at the end what did he choose? his childhood montages with the kents raising him. he isn’t shy to remind you that he’s alien and powerful and invincible, he’s kryptonian, he resists death in the anti-proton river (carrying an ugly cgi baby) as he fights two others and escapes a black hole by propelling himself and others back with a whistle of a blow. he’s silly and he loses his temper on the defense of others and he’d rather painlessly eliminate a kaiju than slap it in half, throw it around and be done with it. in a world where pessimism thrives and rage-baiting pocket dimension monkeys control the internet tide, where belief is biddable to who can monger fear in people and not the trust you’ve built brick by brick alongside them, he stays kind. i’ve seen people ruined by contempt and forget how to live outside of it. sometimes i am one of them. but superman stays on the edge of his seat waiting to step in and help in spite of his fear and uncertainty. sometimes superman may be late or not be there at all but his will has moved many with his unselfish ways to stand with him and be reminded of hope. that’s what superman is to me. to look up and see nothing but still believe. it will get better. the movie reminds me of my early childhood when i’d wake up on a sunday with no responsibilities and just a big bright future ahead of me. oh how i’ve missed that feeling. the whimsy nature of the film is almost nostalgic it spells out C-O-M-I-C. i’m pretty sure people who find this below their average belt of movies take themselves too seriously. we’re here to see the beauty of a superhero who actually likes saving lives and kissing their girlfriends silly. a downright unambiguous film on who’s right or wrong, allegories be damned. take your lorgnettes and leave this establishment immediately. hence if not i will reply a picture of lex luthor losing it gifs (thank you so much nick, you're a gift to the world). that’s you. a loser and bald. nothing but applause to the cast. david corenswet, rachel brosnahan, nicholas hoult, and honorable mention edi gathegi, all 10s on the board. also david flemming chill on the scores i can’t add them to all my playlists. im so excited to see more of gunn’s stuff.
