It
EYE like it and i think this is in some ways a better adaptation than the movies. the relationships between the characters are stronger — they feel more like real people, less Hollywood. tim curry’s pennywise feels less like an eldritch horror than bill skarsgård’s, which i think helps emphasize the novel’s thematic statements about the real world ubiquity of child abuse/trauma. i also mostly prefer the practical effects used here to muschietti’s cgi fest until we get to the actual cosmic horror of the story. ultimately the novel is just fucking impossible to get exactly right (no one wants to get fucking MEAN enough with this story!!!). however, if you can let go of some of the cheesiness you’re inevitably going to find in a late 80s/early 90s made-for-tv movie, there’s some really special stuff here.
