Amadeus
A beautiful and fantastic film about the production and creation of music, talent and mediocrity, hidden jealousy and the longing for approval.
This Film flips our pre conceived notion of Mozart on his head, as we believe him to be a highly disciplined genius. This film subverts our expectation drastically, showing him as someone that simply had talent, a talented young man that created masterpieces effortlessly.
This notion of Mozart is similarly, held by the opposing composer, Salieri, an Italian composer that had come from very poor. He idolised Mozart, he was in awe of his genius, however Wolfgang’s character and personality severely disappointed Salieri, making salieri intensely jealous of him, how can someone so undistinguished and unsophisticated be such a musical genius.
Mozart was portrayed as a walking contradiction of the music he made and it was beautiful, it created a lighthearted atmosphere around him, although he was a complete man child, he was extremely entertaining on screen. I believe this film shall be continued to be watched and appreciated for years to come.
It’s run-time may look steady, but clearing some time out of your day and really sinking into this film will be a great time.
