Infernal Affairs
As much as I love The Departed, Infernal Affairs makes it seem like the most brash and cantankerous remake of a movie ever. This film is so much fucking cooler. The subtlety is perfect. There’s no need for big personality and a bunch of ruckus. There are small moments in scenes in this film that did end up in The Departed that are actually given the proper care and thought to make them impactful, whereas in The Departed, they didn’t seem to carry that over. This film is so much more devastating. The ending of The Departed is very American in the sense that “justice” ends up being served. However here, it’s a different ending and the scripture chosen as the motif for the film is held very close to the story all the way throughout.
