Yi Yi
I just experienced a lifetime (3x ). Yi Yi is easily a masterpiece and I kid you not: Every frame is a painting.
With the film pretty much being made of static shot (mostly) and long takes, it is the most realistic portrayal of family dynamics that stretches across cultural bounds, with the cornerstone being familial life itself and just human experiences. This film touched my soul man. It’s not flashy. It’s not trying too hard to force a narrative. It just allows you to truly appreciate and reflect on your own life and the overarching idea that:
*“Everyday in life is a first time”.
*
The insignificance of life is significant. The perceptible dullness and quietness has meaning. And the most palpable emotion I feel is prevalent is the amazing portrayal of individual struggle between each of the “main characters”. There’s no way you don’t leave with some feeling of nostalgia, some feeling of gratitude or sadness about your family and friends, or some feeling of what the human experience should actually be.
Turn off your phone, take a break from social media, and fuck AI, just experienceeeeeeeee. (Don’t know what invoked the random call to action at the end there but yea why not).
Perfecttttttttttt
