Hamnet
“Will you be brave?” All he (Hamnet) does is just look at his father and say, “Yes.”
This movie has moved me knowing that the story, the tragedy of Hamnet is forever immortalized. There will be remakes of this story for the years to come. That is all William ever wanted for his son, to be remembered.
“What do you see?” “I see you. Grown.” As Agnes looks up to her son, her baby boy she asks, “What do you wish to do?” His one wish, his one desire was to be in his father’s plays. Then later in the movie you can catch glimpse of what looked like the choreography of what Hamnet was doing when having this simple conversation with his mother as he swings his wooden sword around. He was a child who loved his father, a child who never got to contribute to his father’s work in London.
Near the end of the film as Hamlet is being portrayed in the theatre I was sobbing my eyes out with how touched I was when Agnes held out her hand to the stage; to the child playing her son and he reached back. Not only did he reached back but in the final act, he reached to her once again before he dropped “dead”.
I fear this movie was that serious to me, I hope to see Jacobi Jupe play in more roles in the future. This entire film was shot so beautifully, the actors were so entrancing, the soundtrack was so ethereal. I was in tears.
