I haven’t seen 28 days later, so I’m not sure if this is expected of the series, but I appreciated the dramatic angle this movie took. The horror, action, and comedy elements that zombie stories usually prioritize are traded for a somberness that gave each moment some real weight. More than anything, it reminded me of The Last of Us.

What a strange and frustrating ordeal to sit through. It’s a movie all about the human experience yet its generic dialogue and presentation seem completely inhuman. I appreciate what it was going for. The first act is admittedly an intriguing place to start, but from there, I was left with an overly-long, Oscar-baiting emptiness.
