The Maxx
Uhhh, this one was a lot to take in. A super sick adaptation of cult comic book series The Maxx which is already known for being dense and obscure in how it disseminates the plot to the reader. The series takes this shit up to 11, making it even less comprehensible. Yeah I'm not really going to be able to write much about it because, like Serial Experiments Lain, does not want the viewer to understand what the fuck is going on. Incredible visuals with a fantastic mix of traditional 2D animation, CGI and some live-action sections aswell. The story is grim, and it's dark, and it's wild. The Maxx is a homeless guy who dons a purple suit that completely covers him from head to toe and goes on some wild ass adventures while simultaneously existing in another universe known as the Outback (or Pangaea). I can't really write much about this show, because I'll have to rewatch it to fully understand what went on. All I can say is that it's pretty cool visually, but the ending does leave a lot to desire. I wanted to know more about these characters (even if I didn't fully comprehend what went on with these characters), but I guess instilling this show in such a thick haze of mystery is part of its charm and why so many people love this artistic triumph. I however couldn't fully get into it. I truly love the visuals, but the plot went over my head.
