It's funny how the colours of the real world only seem really real when you viddy them on the screen

Man movies are so cool. I hate to have the normie opinion but yeah I think this is the best Kurosawa movie. I can't believe this was 3.5 hours, it felt no more than 90 mins. Mifune plays a samurai that is completely the opposite to what he usually plays. He is so wacky and off the rails and it's super entertaining. Also just a great character in terms of learning more about him and his background as the movie goes on. All the characters are pretty great in this, the seven samurai are all distinct and interesting. They each have little moments that say so much about their character. And the movie makes it clear that it's not afraid to kill characters off and it's in a way that any death is on the table so the tension is high throughout. There is something about the action in these movies that I find so much more entertaining and watchable than pretty much anything from the 21st century. I do think a big part of it is knowing that it is literally all practical and stuff the actors are actually doing. It sounds kinda lame to say but I do think that CGI and technology removed a lot of the magic. During any action scenes in a modern blockbuster I usually get kinda bored and can't lock in but with this I have no such issue. But yeah this movie rules. Absolutely deserves it's reputation as one of the greatest ever. Potentially 5 stars on rewatch/after it settles in my mind.

Currently working on my Barry Lyndon sigma edit

Weird mix between evangelion and power rangers. I have no clue what was happening most the movie but I respect it.

Bro the 8 minute montage of Murakami undercover in the city looking for an arms dealer is so good. It's edited way ahead of it's time and the atmosphere is thick, literally dripping with sweat with the heatwave hitting everyone. It feels like a hazy dream and yet such a well realised and believable world that Kurosawa has created.
