Lake Mungo
This film's horror is a malign, creeping dread that exists solely in the recesses of an inquiring mind; the currency of 'secrets' propelling an otherwise closed-book drowning into something more symbolic - a post-mortem invitation to delve below the frigid surface in search of answers. Those close to Alice sift through these secrets in their own ways, and in doing so, learn about their sister, daughter, friend more in death than they do in life. I found it interesting that discovering Alice's premonitory recording gave the family a comforting sense of closure - like her inexplicable past required an equally unexplainable cause.
