The Stranger
Watching Edgerton's character feel such caustic cognitive dissonance with his assignment elevated an already disquieting film. Harris gives an outstanding performance, capturing, without sympathy nor malice, a whole-of-body picture of his character's real life counterpart. Enough meditative narration and accompanying visuals give a subtle ambiguity to Edgerton whilst remaining appropriately clear on Harris's psyche. The mental toll placed on Edgerton is made apparent as he devolves into a sickly mirroring of mannerisms, habits and dress of that who he most reviles.
