Dignity is outdated All of bresson as films for me have had this sense of grappling with the changing of times. The future is an ugly thing, but bresson positions the past is something that cannot save you. The real world, the new technology, the new ideology faster, more efficient, more pragmatic the new freedom is achieved by freeing oneself from attachment to emotion, It’s a drive that never lets things be. The value will always be squeezed out mind body and soul. The natural isn’t something that serves as an oasis from technology as it too has been chained and enslaved just like the rest of us. Bresson depicts a world where childhood is a lie. Whether it is or isn’t it something the viewer must say for themselves, but I think this films greatest strength is acknowledging that in the world we live in today sometimes it functions like it is.
