The Beast
A difficult film to grasp, let alone understand. I took from the film lots of themes of perversion and ideology.
One interpretation could be is that the present is the most perverse society which will we ever see and that it gets better in the future in a kind of utopia.
Or Perhaps it is a film about when there is an absence of natural evil we replace it with perverse ideologies to fill the gaps of bored and in doing so plunges society into even more perversion. I think that this is the most cynical interpretation of this film.
The third possibility is that there is always perversion and it only changes form. Perhaps we romanticise perversion in the past because that is what we understand the past to be. The present will always seem uncanny and the future will always seem inhuman and cold.
Probably none of these are accurate and the film isn't really about that. What I think the film is about is isolation and loneliness. In all three time periods our protagonists are incredibly isolated and lonely and so nothing particularly changes until the man successfully undergoes the purification which somehow rids him of his burdens in the other time periods.
I don't know how to end this review. I thought this was a very good film would recommend. + Points for mentioning 2CB. Based film, based director tldr this guy gets it.
