Jaws
Very entertaining and plays on tension incredibly well, typical of Spielberg. I like how he presents the shark through its own absence, as it is rarely seen, but the film makes you feel its presence constantly, for example, with the lingering camera shots on the water.
John Williams’ score is fantastic as well, but is especially effective as it is not overused. The pacing in the first half, before they go out, is exceptional in my opinion too.
In the second half, the deliberately character driven dynamic carries the simple plot, keeping it entertaining despite a slightly tedious hour at sea.
Spielberg was much more thoughtful than I expected, controlling the action with a steady hand to emphasise the shark’s terror. Very good editing, keeping the film tight and easy to watch. Superb from Spielberg 👏🏻
