Monster
After watching the incredible show that is Berserk (1997), I decided to finally sit down and watch Monster so 2 weeks later .... I think I expected too much out of this show. It's far from a bad show just something is lacking for to me call it a masterpiece.
Maybe it's the overblown runtime, the useless characters, the constant rise and fall arcs making the quality feel inconsistent with each drop off. There's just too much fat in between this good ass steak. I can't put my finger on it quite yet.
Idk but when it's good oh bro its good. The relationship between Tenma and “The Monster” reminds me of Batman and Joker. Both have to coexist in order to survive. the logical end point of Nihilism vs Existentialism inside many minds today, Suicide vs Pain, Nothing vs Fragments.
Is there anything left to live for?
Will the hopelessness ever leave me so that I can believe?
Am I really a human?
Etc. etc.
I think I've reached a point where it's getting harder to find work that truly challenges my worldview and everything I know. Somewhere out there in the archives of Letterboxd I will find my next berserk.
But for now, this ain't it
Edit:
After some thinking I changed my mind its positives out weigh the negatives but my critiques still stand
