MalumJagdish9.9· May 27, 2023FollowI made the unfortunately misstep of watching Malum before watching it’s predecessor — The Last Shift. Right off the bat with it’s first headshot, Malum had me in a chokehold. I was mesmerized by it’s clever jumpscares, use of lore, pig imagery and connotation with the police, Jessica s Dante’s Inferno-esque exploration of the police station and quite frankly the final 20 minutes. My only gripe is that the Low God’s character design looked like a inbred between a Beluga and a cenobite — I wished it was more black slime oozing out of every pore and less twink demon. The Last Shift did feel like an indie horror film but I think having Malum as a frame of reference; instead of it being the other way around, probably hindered my experience. I enjoyed the The Last Shift’s contained and rug-pull ending; or should I say pillow cover?CommentsSign in to react and join the conversation.Sign inGet the app
