Demolition
The reason I love this movie so much is because it shows the audience such an extreme way of grieving, it makes them think he never loved her. When in fact, he did, maybe not true love, but there was still some sort of love there. This movie does such a great job at showing how people deal with death, not fully accepting it, and these “existential crises” that we have. I love how he talks about things he never noticed; he pays more attention to the small things because he’s trying to find some sort of distraction. Unfortunately, sometimes losing someone is the only way to change your perspective on how you see the world. Davis’s “demolition” is a bit dramatic, but it’s his distraction, and having a distraction is perfectly ok. But at a certain point, that distraction isn’t a distraction anymore; it becomes a hobby, or it goes away, and so that barrier falls down. Finally, we see Davis accept that Sarah is gone after avoiding it for so long, and it is very satisfying. That’s what makes the end of this movie so good to me, it’s the full cycle of grief, and it’s super cool.
Also his relationship with the kid was awesome!
