“If I have a boy I’ll teach him how to love. If I have a girl I’ll tell her the world is hers.” 🗣️🔥
A common complaint with this film is that it is an unnecessary showing of violent killings of women; I think that those words are a poor description of this film. I would call it an accurate depiction of true evil in the world shown through this specific incident. Everything about this film is so incredibly well done.
My main highlights are-
Use of storytelling with minimal dialogue
Beatifully realistic yet simple shots and cinematography
Deep symbolic characters (despite common complaints)
Use of the black and white color scheme
Emotional depth
This film made me cry so many times, the many scenes involving the violent acts and beautifully tragic lines at the end. The realism of the camera work and shots have such an effect on that emotional depth by making everything feel realistic. A lot of people complain about the main female protagonist lacking any substance to her character and I feel like that is a lazy way to say you didn’t understand the film. This traumatic event has stripped her of emotion in so many ways, that is why throughout the epilogue you see that lack of emotion stand out. This film is so criminally underrated. The first foreign film to truly speak to me on many levels
Note: Apparently there is an English version of the film 😭 (I didn’t have to watch the whole thing in French)
