Chasing Amy
This movie has aged surprisingly well in certain aspects, but also poorly in others. You can definitely tell that this is Smith’s most personal movie, as it was heavily based off of his relationship with the movies star Joey Lauren Adams. A lot of this movies problems stem from Alyssa being referred to as a Lesbian, despite the fact anyone with a bit of common sense can realise she is quite clearly Bisexual, and I think because of that, this movie plays into the toxic male fantasy that lesbians can be “turned straight”. However, this movies charm, characters, attitudes, music, humour and Smith’s sharp and witty dialogue continues to draw me back to this film, despite its apparent flaws. Also Silent Bob’s most notable role is here so there’s something to be said about that
