Paul
This movie is so iconic to me. I remember when I was 9 or 8 or so, my mum went away for the weekend with her friends leaving my dad with me and my brother. I had known of the cornetto trilogy but didn’t watch it until I was around 10 or 11, however I really wanted to watch Shaun of the Dead. My Dad was a fan of the trilogy, and he was a fan of Simon Pegg, so knowing that he couldn’t show Shaun of the Dead to his 8 and 11 year old children, he showed me and my brother this movie. When I first watched Paul, I thought it was the funniest movie ever, and even almost 10 years from when I I still remember every joke in the movie and I absolutely adore it. Paul also helped shape my love for road trip movies, which I will probably say is my favourite genre of movie, as it has so many different opportunities for story-telling which I absolutely love. A few years after watching Paul, I found out it has a very mixed reception from both audiences and critics, which initially made me a bit upset as this was one of my favourite movies, how could a movie with a stoner alien trying to get back home be bad? Paul is a very odd comedy but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love this movie then and even today. Thank you Paul for everything
