Get Out
decided to rewatch this since I originally saw this when it first came out and forgot about it. i can safely say that this is genuinely one of the best “horror” films ive ever seen. everything about the way this was crafted, from the build up to the acting to the subtle nods at the reveal, created this uniquely unsettling mood mixed in with bursts of humor, satire, and social commentary that i rarely come across in the genre. ive never particularly liked most mainstream horror specifically because most of them try to mask the lack of plot, purpose, and character building with gore and violence. if you like high quality and tense thrillers with unique premises and somewhat of a “happy ending,” this is the “horror” film for you.
