I don’t think I could possibly begin to review this film. I’ve never seen anything quite like it and I don’t think I ever will again.
Upon investigation I’ve discovered that Obayashi consulted with his then-10-year-old daughter to create this, which made the whole thing click into place for me. Go watch this. Preferably not under the influence (trust me).
