Linsanity
It's not a great documentary and not even a good sports one at that. But Jeremy Lin's story was so awe-inspiring when it happened. As a young Asian American, Lin's cultural impact was strong. To not only hear another Asian but an Asian American have his moment in the spotlight was affecting. Especially during a time of considerable success in the early 2010s scene of Asian American content creators. Ryan Higa, KevJumba, or WongFu productions were all staples in my Recommended feed back in the day. And Linsanity felt like the apex of this movement for the AAPI community. Linsanity was bigger than a two-week period, for us it felt like change. Jeremy Lin as the figurehead was always bigger than who he was as a player. He was always an inspiration for me--and I would imagine a lot of the AAPI community as well--that Asian Americans can see success and don't need to be from the East to do so. We can aspire for our dreams just like anyone else. To see him succeed later down the line and actually win an NBA championship really does complete his story as an athlete and a representative of American-born Asian people.
