After Hours
I think I finally thought of something to say after a week or so thinking about it. I love the whole atmosphere, and even more so Paul's character. I really think his job is a reflection of his relentless conformity, and honestly that is what gets him in his predicament. For how the movie depicts SoHo it really is amazing. Stopping in at a diner at 3 in the morning to get Coffee and a Burger, or how fast hundreds of people have been able to form a riot against one guy, nonetheless a guy that didn't do anything. I really can't tell if Paul is supposed to be this awkward character whose awkwardness gets him into trouble, or a chance taking character that just gets into trouble because of his awkward social skills. For how fucked up this film is I find Paul to be oddly relatable, not in the "Travis Bickle is literally me" sort of way, just in the Office Space sort of way. Paul doesn't like his corporate job and I think all that built up steam leads him into the dynamo he transforms into. Cursing and swearing at people that are trying to help him.
