Nightcrawler
Hi, I just recently joined the letterbox fam, and for the past few days I have just been adding all the movies I previously watched up to this point (still not done tbh) so this is the REAL first diary log/review I have for this account. Now that I think about it i have never reviewed a movie ever. To start off, I have watched this movie twice before, both times about 3 or 4 years ago. I live with my auntie and my grandma (when I’m not at my dorm for school ) and we do this thing sometimes where we watch movies at like midnight(we are all night owls😭). It was my turn to pick the movie.
I obviously picked this masterpiece of a movie, Nightcrawler. (And to see what they would think of it since they never seen it I think)
Now for the review,
as a Jake Gyllenhal fanatic, he showed why he is one of the best actors in da biz. Respectfuly. The way he echoes the sociopaths in the industry and in humans in general is unparalleled . He will beat you for a damn chain fence and a fake rolex. Jake Gyllenhaal makes you forget that it’s him no matter how big of a celebrity is. I was DISGUSTED the entire time and that creep feeling really added to the movie. I hated him and wanted to be him at the same time. That adrenaline rush can be addictive and he became quite the cold asshole the more scenes he was in. Mr Bloom isn't going to win because he's particularly intelligent, or because he's a great speaker, or even because he has a brilliant idea. He's a leech, who uses other people to get ahead. Lou Bloom is going to win because people like Lou Bloom always win. And what's more 21st century than that? Louis Bloom is a role that Jake is completely submerged in and it oozes through every frame as our dislike for Bloom intensifies throughout the film. But what this film does best is not make us particularly like Bloom but it makes us wonder what he is willing to do next. Gyllenhaal fully embodies the process of becoming a monster and it's chilling to watch unfold.
So does Nightcrawler have a "happy ending"?
If Lou were a corporation we'd say it's reached a new summit of success and would call it a successful, profitable company. Is this what it takes to succeed in today's world? It's unsettling to even consider, but I believe people like this are "succeeding" in life. They may very well be at the helm of many powerful companies and organizations. But these kinds of psychopaths won't bludgeon you to death with a knife, but with a smile while wearing an exquisitely tailored suit. And this is why Nightcrawer is one of the most important film you'll see in the 2010s and, for that matter, EVER.
Most of my reviews wont be this long but since this is my first one ever I thought I would put a little more effort to this one. Oh and also most of my reviews are gonna be on movies that I love. Very seldom will I write a review for garbage , trash, dumpster fire movies (especially a long thought out review.) Ok Im done. Wait how do people usually end reviews like this LOL. Idk . UMMmmm I guess if you actually read this whole thing I wanna say thank you (probably no one read this but lol who cares) and for future reviews I probably wont have this paragraph long monologue with myself at the end LMAAO. k bye. <3 lol .
