Materialists
love is the furthest thing from material, and that's why i love it
celine song's bread and butter: soft edges and sharp feelings
honestly some of the themes in this movie hit a bit too close to home so there's no way i wouldn't have loved it
i think some people misunderstand lucy's character a bit by criticizing the fact that "of COURSE she picked the broke guy, wanting financial stability isn't a bad thing, love doesn't pay the bills" etc. but i think what people are missing is that throughout the movie, it isn't financial stability lucy wants, it's luxury. we see flashbacks of her talking about being broke and unable to afford the necessities in life, but she herself is fully financially stable when we meet her at the beginning of the movie and she is doing well for herself. she has her own apartment with no roommates in nyc, can afford very nice clothing and jewelry, and is overall in a good financial position independently. she just realizes at the end of the movie that true love, even if it doesn't quite make sense, outweighs her love for material and luxury. so it isn't about what pays the bills, it's about what you value most: love or (LUXURY) material.
