Princess Mononoke

“to see with eyes unclouded by hate” What a beautiful film and some of Miyazaki’s best work. The amount of symbolism and metaphors in this movie is astounding. Something even as simple as a bullet, crafted at the hands of man, being the catalyst to corrupt nature and turn animals into demons. This movie looks deep into the themes of the battle against hatred, humanity’s impact on the world around us, and so many more. This film becomes even more important with every passing day as we continue our march towards our own and nature’s destruction in pursuit of technology, wealth, and power. Every day man fires off more and more balls of iron, cursing the world around it. If wish to save our own planet then just like returning the head in the film, it must be by human hands. Hands, human hands and human eyes unclouded by hate. Also, the scene after they cut of the head with Ashitaka and San is one of my favorite scenes in any Ghibli movie.
