Unforgiven
As the credits rolled over the beautiful silhouette of the farm and the music started to play, I started to think about why Clint Eastwood went with the title Unforgiven. Obviously there are many surface level ideas of how the sins of your past maybe history, but are never completely gone. Though you can’t change who you use to be you can change you are going to become. With that being said, some acts that are done put things into motion that can’t be stopped, even though by the time they come around for justice they may be punishing a man who was and not who is. I guess you could say something’s stay Unforgiven (roll credits). This film is such a contrast to the usual wild west film that I am use to, really diving deep into what we today might call “toxic masculinity”. Although obviously exaggerated, the glorified image of a lone gunslinging killer is contrasted in a lot of ways with other characters who try to put on that mask. At its core I think this movie shows what a man really is, and what a man can be. Random side note “well then he should have armed himself” goes so unnecessarily hard.
