Carol
oh thank god they ended up together. this movie is the ultimate xmas movie 4 me. this isn’t js romance, it’s proof that queer ppl didn’t “show up” recently, that LGBTQ+ love has always been here, beathing quietly in the corners of history while society pretended not to c it. carol and therese aren’t rebelling 4 the sake of rebellion, they’re not trying to be symbols, they’re js 2 ppl who feel something real, and the film keeps asking: “why is this the thing the world finds unacceptable?” the answer is never love itself, it’s control. homophobia in carol isn’t abt morality, it’s abt maintaining power, keeping ppl in their assigned boxes, especially women. this literally hits hard especially coming from an lgbt member, the movie understands that queer ppl in the past survived thru subtlety. the looks that linger a second too long. the silence that says more than dialogue ever could. carol’s storyline makes one thing painfully clear: homophobia is evil bcuz it disguises itself as responsibility. she’s told that being herself makes her “unfit” 4 a mother, as if love somehow cancels out care. society is willing to emotionally mutilate ppl as long as it can call it “proper.” now therese, where falling in luv w carol was her clarity. clarity that queerness is something that finally makes her world make sense. there’s something radical abt how calm the realization is. no panic, no shame, just recognition, and i honestly luv it. overall, a rlly rlly great movie, lesbians should watch this lol.
