Unbelievable
This is another miniseries which is hard to say I ‘liked’ but it was really engaging and I found it difficult to switch off!
First of all Merritt Wever is criminally underrated as an actor and this series is another string to her bow! Her range is incredible & after mainly seeing her in comedies, seeing her perform in a drama is refreshing. Toni Collette and Kaitlyn Dever really weren't far behind though! They really all performed brilliantly & tackled such a difficult subject matter with honesty.
The first episode is particularly hard to watch, but once you’re past that and the investigation gets underway it really begins to take shape & from then the pacing is perfect. The dynamics of such great female characters playing off each other really work well in the hyper masculine environments juxtaposed with Marie’s struggle. The writing throughout is difficult to watch but necessary viewing & that final phone conversation on the beach really hit hard.
The way it was shot wasn’t particularly interesting, but I did like some of the wide shots the most. In places I disliked the blue colour grade in a few episodes, it felt too typical of the run of the mill Netflix original that people half watch while cooking or cleaning their bedroom. Despite a few little technical things that got to me Netflix really pulled this one out of the bag.
