Aquaman
King of the sea? King of the BOX OFFICE!
Aquaman is one of the most fun movies I've seen in a long time. The pacing of the film is great, with plenty of action and very little slowdown. Everything from movement underwater to large scale battles look visually amazing. The action, the colors and cinematography, and the film's score really help shape the movie's identity, making it stand above the rest of the DCEU.
Jason Momoa was born to play Aquaman. He is bad ass and clearly has fun with the role. The supporting cast are all fantastic, and Patrick Wilson helps create something that a lot of comic book movies struggle to make: a memorable villain.
The movie does a great job at fleshing out the history of the seven nations of the sea and Arthur's origin without lingering on any one character or scene for too long. James Wan keeps the movie flowing, creating some spectacular action sequences that are fresh and so much fun. There are so many memorable scenes and I could easily watch this movie in the theater for a 3rd time without getting bored.
Aquaman never hits any cringeworthy or eye-rolling moments, but its attempts at comedy usually just fall flat, receiving a small chuckle from one to two people in the audience. The dialogue is usually fine at worst, but the action is so frequent and fluid that any problems with the script become minuscule. I can not stress enough how great this movie looks and how much fun it is.
DC Comics has a long road ahead at making a full cinematic universe that can mesh well together, and I do not envy them. Aquaman isn't just a step in the right direction, but a huge leap. It's easily my favorite DC film since the Nolan Batman movies. I know I'll be swimming to my local Target to buy this movie day one! #LetJamesWanDirectDBZ
