Arrival

Beautiful film. I mean that in terms of visuals, score, sound design and story. The reveal really caught me off-gaurd, and I loved it. It's a real love letter to linguistics and language. The fact that the language itself is the gift is perfect. I really liked the idea that the Chinese linguists failed specifically because they tried to teach the Heptopods mahjong instead of trying to learn their language. The quote "When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." really communicates what the film is about. This film is all about how the medium is the message, and how the journey is the reward.
