Wings
At first, I felt a bit of reticence about watching this movie. I knew of the praise it received, but two hours of a silent film seemed rather absurd to me. Fortunately, delight was the predominant feeling that this movie left inside of me. Don’t let its size scare you, otherwise you’ll be missing an absolute masterpiece.
Everything about it is sublime. Each element, from the superb dolly shot to the amazing aviator scenes, is extremely ahead of it’s time and should have its genius and longevity praised — truly timeless.
Even though Clara Bow does not appear as much as I would like, with the main focus being on the two male leads, her portrayal of the charming girl next door is both heartwarming and preeminent + her hair looks exceedingly beautiful.
Overall, it’s a movie with a much deserved praise that, if you want to start getting into silent films, deserves to be put on the top of your list — the kind of movie that every time you rewatch you ought to find pleasure in it.
