The Matrix
This film has one of the best movie premises, ever. Because of this, I completely understand the movies popularity, success, and its status as an iconic piece of cinema. The world-building was phenomenal; the audience was put in the seat of the protagonist, in a way which made the outrageous and inconceivable believable.
The pacing was well, though I felt it dragged a bit before the first pinch point. However, this didn't drastically my opinion on the film, as it was only a small portion of the runtime.
The characters were well developed, yet riddled with gender stereotypes. Given the film was made in the ‘90s, it is somewhat expected, but definitely one of the more mild cases. However, the ending suffered so much because of this! I’d love to see these characters breaking these stereotypes, but I don’t believe it would’ve reached the same massive audience if they had.
